NBA Trade Rumors – The Los Angeles Lakers are back at it again. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are urging the Lakers front office to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.
Antetokounmpo recently won his second MVP nod despite the Bucks getting eliminated by the Miami Heat in the East Semis. Giannis’ deal with Milwaukee is set to expire after next season. He will undoubtedly be the No.1 free agent in next year’s Free Agent class.
Antetokounmpo to Decide His Future
Giannis Antetokounmpo told Bucks management to put all extension talks on hold. Milwaukee over the weekend made a whole host of trades to acquire star swingman Jrue Holiday. They hope that this radical overhaul is strong enough to convince the Greek Freak to remain in Wisconsin as the team’s franchise player.
Even with that huge roster makeover, I believe this current roster has an outside shot to win the NBA title this year. Not when they are facing the Lakers that have LeBron and AD in the Finals at this stage. I would prefer them to come up with another strong package that could get them on par with LA’s size, at least.
Blake Griffin, in my opinion, could be the one that Milwaukee is looking for. Blake has size, strength, and versatility which could give opponents, especially the Lakers some headaches. If the Detroit Pistons can somehow ship Griffin to Milwaukee and in return get a good deal out of it, then the Bucks will fly.
This move could be the defining moment in the career of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Another hasty playoff exit means Giannis will surely leave Milwaukee.
AD Sorting Out Affordable Deal
Anthony Davis and the Lakers have yet to come to an agreement after Davis opted to re-sign with Los Angeles on Friday. Davis is unsure whether he would sign a short-term or a long-term deal which rides on the status of Antetokounmpo.
Should Giannis decide to go to Lala Land, then AD would have to sign a one-year deal with a player option for 2021-22 according to Brian Windhorst. AD and James will eventually opt out, and recruit Giannis to form the strongest trio in NBA history. If Giannis signs elsewhere, AD has no choice but to sign a max contract to stay with LA.
Imagine what a superteam the Lakers will look like if they have all three in the same lineup. They will possibly form another Laker dynasty and the league could do little to stop them.
